A momentous occasion Date : 10-06-2025
A momentous occasion unfolded in the heart of the Vatican this week as Pope Leo XIV welcomed Rev. Mother Rosily Ozhukayil, Superior General of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament (SABS), for a special audience at the Apostolic Palace in Rome.
The meeting, described by Vatican officials as “deeply spiritual and profoundly encouraging,” centered on the mission and global contributions of the SABS congregation, especially in the fields of education, healthcare, and Eucharistic devotion. Pope Leo XIV praised the sisters for their unwavering commitment to adoration and service, echoing the legacy of their founder, Venerable Mar Thomas Kurialachery.
The meeting concluded with a private prayer and the exchange of symbolic gifts: the Holy Father received a handcrafted monstrance made by SABS artisans, while the Superior General was gifted a papal medallion representing unity and peace.
The SABS congregation, founded in 1908 in Kerala, India, now has thousands of sisters serving in over 20 countries, continuing their motto: "Adoration and Service."
This historic encounter marks a renewed encouragement from the Holy See toward female religious congregations and a recognition of their essential place in the global mission of the Catholic Church.
